Past Works
Here I explain the backstory behind some of my past works, as well as the Lyrics to some of the songs I have out.
The First
This track, The First, is honestly something that I just came up with just by the way it sounds. It is kinda a funk-pop vibe to it. This sound for each track came to me out of nowhere. Each sound that came to me I tried to make each sound kinda similar to the previous track but also different from the one that was already done before. I also tried to make sure that each track tied to each other in order to convey a story.
The rhythm was set in a 4/4 time as it is a meter that I am more familiar with. This all goes along with a tempo of 120 bpm. This ends up making a cheerful sound that came up at the end. The bass follows the drums in the matter of rhythm mainly the kick of the drum. I am still not really comfortable with making the beat for the bass from scratch so I used the Kick of the drums as a reference.
In harmony, I used the key of D major. The major keys are some of the easiest to work with, so it is a reason I chose it. For the chords of the harmony used I-iii-ii-V-I-V7. This brought out a happy but also somewhat of a sad tone to the harmonization. Now in the melody, I made sure to follow the chord progression. The melody was a little bit easier to make as I had more experience with creating melodies. I tried to use some of the techniques I had learned throughout the course, such as motif and falling and rising melodies.
For my two audio recordings, I used an apple loop for one and the other was a recording of me shaking a bottle of salt. I tried to do some experimenting. The loop I used in small sections throughout the entire track. I tried to not have been too overwhelming. The same went with the recording of the salt shaker, I only used it by a fraction. I also ended up using two different synth tracks that were used in certain parts of the track that follow each other. This is something that I haven't really tried but did try to make it work.
To bring everything together I used some dynamic effect and time-based effects. I first used reverb on the Drum to bring it out just a little bit more of a lighter sounding beat. I also added a compressor to the kick of the drums to get a fatter sounding the can stand out. I then added an echo to the first synth track I had. This ended up giving it a more funky vibe/ sound to the track. And finally, I added a channel eq to the audio 2 recordings. This was to make the salt shaker have more of a pop in the whole recording as a whole. Overall this effect did take me a while to get done and almost perfect.
